Bob and Jennifer Lane, who operate McDonald’s management group Lane Enterprises, have donated $250,000 toward the construction of the BG Products Veterans Sports Complex.
The Lanes say they are challenging the community to match the donation.
The Lanes’ gift brings the private fundraising total to $3.3 million of the $4 million goal.
Butler Community College and El Dorado Public Schools will use the stadium when its complete.
Here’s more from a news release about the donation:
Lane Enterprises manages several McDonald’s restaurants in south central Kansas, including in Augusta and El Dorado.
“This is an incredible testament to Lane Enterprises’ commitment to our community,” says Stacy Cofer, chief advancement officer at Butler Community College Foundation. “Bob believes in this project and its benefits for our region and, more importantly, values the involvement and ownership of our citizens.”
To honor Lane’s gift, the turf in the stadium will bear the McDonald’s logo in two locations along the visitor and home sides of the field.
“I’m a long-time supporter of Butler Community College and the El Dorado community,” Lane said. “My family has been a significant part of El Dorado since 1978. This is an opportunity to showcase the quality teams Butler has produced and will continue to produce over the years. It will be a much used and appreciated facility for the entire community.”
The BG Products Veterans Sports Complex is managed by the Educational Facilities Authority, which is comprised of two members from each of the three partnering entities: The City of El Dorado, El Dorado Public Schools USD 490, and Butler Community College, as well as one member at large.
“It is time to engage the entire community in the fundraising effort, much the same way that the community backed the YMCA over 10 years ago,” says stadium donor Ray Connell. “Bob and Jennifer’s challenge gift enables that to happen.”
Lane has served on many community organizations including Board of Directors of Ronald McDonald House Charities of Wichita and the Butler Community College Foundation Board. Lane also served as campaign chairman for the community-wide capital campaign that helped bring a YMCA facility to El Dorado.
